A Chatroom with Musicians: What Makes you a Musician?

Common sense for musicians dreaming the big stage:

Classical - Get a music degree, practice, enter competitions, win or lose, get lucky, get famous, perform.

Pop - Get pretty, practice, record, upload, get likes, get exposed, get lucky, get famous, get signed, perform.

Thankfully, these common notions have finally been challenged by innovative means. There are local music practitioners who form their own ensembles, organise their own concert series, build their original seasonal programme. There are independent artists who go busking all around the city, building their followers on digital platforms. There are crowdfunders who support meaningful small projects that would otherwise fail without the early-received funds.

In this dynamic environment nowadays, how do musicians perceive themselves, "follow their passion" and develop their work? Can we learn from their stories and re-value the work of an artist?

This chatroom will be a polyphonic chatroom with musicians at different stages. Hear how they think, what they say, the music they play.

Publication Project

We pay much of our attention to the educational background, awards and scholarships attained by musicians. However, what are their stories? How are our musicians living in our unforgiving city? Serving our musicians as humans instead of products, Music Lab will interview our collaborating artists in the Festival, and publish a book that shares their stories, dreams and aspirations.

Festival Plus: Meet the Artist Series

The Meet the Artist Series is a musical encounter closer than you expect! Hosted at the Music Lab Education Studio, Meet the Artist Series is the best opportunity for our audiences to interact with our musicians intimately under the most comfortable setting. Pre-concert sharing by our musicians enables our  audiences to appreciate music in an alternative setting and more comprehensively.
